Halloween is just around the corner, and with it comes a lot of fun activities such as trick-or-treating or costume parties to celebrate the spooky season! However, with all the festivities comes some challenges and potential dangers that can take all the fun out of the night. To ensure that you have a fun, safe Halloween, here are five tips and tricks to follow:
1. Comfortable costumes.
If you are very sensitive to touch, an uncomfortable costume can ruin your night. There are a lot of store-bought costumes with itchy, uncomfortable fabric, or some with corsets that can be really tight and make breathing difficult. So when shopping for a costume, make sure to try it on first before buying it. Make sure you have backup options if you find that the costume is too uncomfortable for you to wear. Or, if you are really set on being that particular thing, you can make your own costume with clothes that are comfortable for you and accessorize to make a creative interpretation. Whatever you choose, make sure that your costume makes trick-or-treating or parties comfortable for you.
2. Check your candy before you eat it.
Trick-or-treating is supposed to be a fun time where you can go out with friends and collect as much candy as possible. It is always important to check the packaging of your candy before you eat it for any signs of tampering and ensure not to eat items that are not packaged. Choose the candy that is fully sealed before eating.
3. When going out, be alert.
Despite trick-or-treating being a fun time, you always have to keep your eyes on all your surroundings in order to be safe. Watch out for cars and other people. If there are houses that don’t have lights on, skip going to them. Even though Halloween can be overstimulating, it’s important that you keep your eyes and ears alert. But keep in mind, you can reduce the overstimulating factors by doing things such as going to quieter parts of your neighbourhood and skipping houses with loud, bright, and/or scary Halloween decorations to make things a little more easier and enjoyable for you.
4. Wear bright colours.
It’s always a good idea to wear a brightly coloured costume. Since it’s so dark out when trick-or-treating, a dark costume can blend into the night, and cars driving by would not be able to see you. If your costume is dark, make sure to wear a brightly coloured jacket or add glowsticks to be seen and be visible.
5. Go out in a group.
When going out, it’s best to go out in a group. Not only is the more, the merrier, but there’s also strength in numbers. Whether you’re going out with a parent or a guardian or with a group of friends, it’s always best to be with more people. It is more safe and fun!
Halloween is a great time of year to get creative, spend time with friends and have fun!
